These earrings are super easy to make – if you can open and close a jump ring, you can make them - and, if you can’t open and close a jump ring, here’s a tutorial on how to do that – there’s really no excuse!
I’m continuing my five minute earring series today with these delicate little dragon scales earrings. The beads I’ve used here are called Dragon Scale beads. They are more commonly used in bead weaving but I really love them so wanted to use them in a different way.
The other great thing about these earrings is that you only need four components to make them.
Materials
Here’s what you will need to make these earrings:
- 19mm Silver Twist Earhooks x2
- 4mm Nickel Jump Rings x10
- 5x1.5mm Crystal Azuro (blue) or Crystal Labrador (silver) Dragon Scale Beads x10
- 9mm Silver U-Shaped Link Connectors x4

Instructions
Watch the video or read the instructions below.
Step 1
Open a jump ring and thread on one bead and two connectors, making sure that the connectors are both facing the same way. Close the jump ring.
Repeat the for other side. Open the connectors so that the connectors are on opposite sides of the jump rings.
Step 2
Open another jump ring and add a bead to it. Thread the jump ring through the lower loop of the connector. Close the jump ring.
Step 3
Open another jump ring and add a bead to it. This time, loop the jump ring around the connector to one side of the bottom loop. Close the jump ring. Repeat for the other side.
Step 4
Open the earwire by holding it between your thumb and forefinger, and the loop in the pliers. Twist like you did with the jump rings. Thread on the top loop of the connector. Make sure that the rounded side of the earwire faces the front so that the earring will face the front when the wire is through the ear. Close the loop.
Repeat all these steps for the other earring.
I really enjoyed making these earrings. They were super quick and easy to make and required very little in terms of materials. Let me know in the comments section below if you make them.
